Closet Systems and Garage Storage

Have you ever opened the closet and experienced the sinking feeling that comes from the contents inside lacking organization or adequate space? Or worse, do you even hate the idea of opening the closet because of the mess that awaits on the other side of the door? Now think of your garage. Has your garage been crowded with items for so long that you don’t remember what the floor looks like?

Closet and Garage Storage Dysfunction

If you’ve ever had any of the experiences I just described, you’re not alone. Oftentimes builders just don’t take the time to truly optimize a closet space. In the case of older construction, the closets are so small we’re left to assume one or more of the following:

  • People had fewer clothes that needed to be stored

  • People stored their clothes in alternate locations besides closets

  • People didn’t care about having good storage for clothes or other items

Nowadays, there are plenty of great closet organization systems by manufacturers such as Elfa, ClosetMaid, and Rubbermaid. However, many of our closets don’t receive the updates that would truly help us with organizing. The same is true about our garages. Many of us have garages in which there are stacks and scads of items piled on either the floor or any available surface. While a garage is a great place to store things, it rarely comes with wall-mounted storage systems to help keep the clutter under control.

Closet System and Garage Shelving Installation

Hi. My name is Robert Rounds, and I’m here to help you with your closet or garage organization needs. I enjoy the work of storage space optimization. I get satisfaction from creating and implementing an organized storage solution in what was previously a disorganized or poorly utilized space. Whether it’s a cramped closet or crowded garage, I’ll take care of you.

Whether you’ve already decided on a modular closet system or are still evaluating your options, I can help you every step of the way. I’ve selected and installed many closet systems over the past several years. The outcome has always improved the efficiency and functionality of the space. The best part is seeing a sharp-looking modular closet system or shelves in what used to be an underutilized space. Under-the-stairs closets are a prime example of spaces that are oftentimes marginally functional if not dysfunctional storage spaces. This is where even the simplest closet system can dramatically improve the usability of the space. The image below is an example of an under-the-stair closet in which I installed a modular closet system.

Under-the-stair closet after I installed a modular closet system. The right end of the closet rod is anchored so even the unsupported end on the left can be used for hanging clothes.

I always like to have a minimum of two shelves in any closet I install. This allows for the user to put seldom-used items on the top shelf, while using the bottom shelf for storage of more frequently used items. An example of a more typical closet space in which I installed a closet system is shown below.

A more typical closet after I installed perforated rail, shelving, and a closet rod.

I find that it's best to make the upper shelf narrower so that you can more easily place and view the items on it. The bottom shelf is made as wide as is reasonable to maximize storage efficiency.

Whether you want solid boards or ventilated shelving for your garage storage or closet organization needs, I can help. Just pick up the phone, give me a call, and take back control of your storage area!
